At Rustiq Fitness, we’re proud to be a Spartan DEKA-affiliated gym — the only one of its kind in Wiltshire.

But what exactly is DEKA?

DEKA is a functional fitness challenge designed by Spartan — the creators of Spartan Race and Tough Mudder — to test your overall fitness across ten workout zones. Think of it as a modern-day decathlon for everyday athletes: strength, endurance, grit, and teamwork all rolled into one.

Each event combines simple, effective movements — rows, lunges, carries, burpees, ski-ergs, and more — in a format that anyone can do.

No fancy gymnastics.

No need to be “elite.”

Just you, a timer, and your effort.

What Makes DEKA Special?

DEKA was built to be inclusive. Every age, ability, and background can take part. Whether you’re starting your fitness journey or chasing a new goal, DEKA gives you a clear benchmark to measure your progress.

There are now four DEKA formats, each designed for a different type of challenge:

  • DEKA STRONG: all 10 workout zones, no running — pure functional strength and endurance.

  • DEKA MILE: a short run (160 m) before each zone (1 mile in total) — fast-paced and intense.

  • DEKA FIT: a longer 5 km run broken up by the 10 zones — the full endurance test. Hosted a few times a year by Spartan in an arena.

  • DEKA ATLAS: a 10 heavy fitness zones workout with a 30 min time cap, designed to highlight people with well-rounded strength foundation and strong work capacity engine

You can start with any version, and at Rustiq, we’ll coach you through every movement so you feel confident, capable, and supported.

We’ve built DEKA training sessions right into our class timetable, so you can train the way you’ll compete. Focusing on functional strength, conditioning, pacing, and mindset — everything you’ll need on event day. You’ll practice the same movements and zones used in official DEKA competitions, all coached by our experienced Rustiq team.
